MAP2K3 (Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Kinase 3, also known as MKK3) is a Protein Coding gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a dual-specificity protein kinase that belongs to the MAP kinase kinase family. This kinase is activated by mitogenic and environmental stress and participates in the MAP kinase-mediated signaling cascade. 3 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. MAP2K3 is widely expressed in bone marrow, gall bladder, and other tissues. MAP2K3 resides in a biological pathway linked to memory. It is in a signaling cascade associated with beta-amyloid mediated apoptosis and has enriched expression in microglia.MAP2K3 may represent a novel therapeutic target for age-related memory decline and perhaps Alzheimer's disease (AD).
