SMAD7 (SMAD Family Member 7) is a protein coding gene located on human chromosome 18q21.1. SMAD7 is also known as CRCS3, MADH7 and MADH8. The human SMAD7 gene encodes a 46426 Da protein containing 426 amino acids. The SMAD7 protein is ubiquitously expressed in lung, placenta and other tissues. Among its related pathways are Transcriptional activity of SMAD2/SMAD3-SMAD4 heterotrimer and Signaling by GPCR. SMAD7 is related to DNA-binding transcription factor activity and transcription regulatory region DNA binding. SMAD6 is an important paralog of SMAD7 gene. SMAD7 is associated with some diseases, including Colorectal Cancer 3 and Breast Cancer.

    SMAD7 - epigenetic modified gene related to atherosclerosis. SMAD7 methylation as a novel marker in atherosclerosis and further elucidate the role of Hcy in atherogenesis. Atherosclerosis is a complicated process comprising inflammation, accumulation of collagen matrix and aberrant DNA methylation. SMAD7 is known to play an important role in fibrosis and inflammation. SMAD7 may be a novel predicted marker and therapeutic target for atherosclerosis. SMAD7 attenuated the TGF-beta signaling pathway in ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) by regulating TGFBR1 transcriptional activity.
